Boston Gazette (first) is first published.

December 21, 1719

[1709-Mann] It is published by the town’s new postmaster, William Brooker from the shop of printer James Franklin on the site of today’s Government Center Station at 65 Court Street. Boston’s second successful newspaper, it comes into being when Brooker’s predecessor, John Campbell, refuses to relinquish control of the Boston News-Letter. The Gazette moves to Dorsett’s Alley near today’s 35 Court Street, and for a time becomes the official government newspaper. It ceases publication in 1741. A second Boston Gazette begins publishing in 1755.*
